Medicinal Chemistry

Introduction of Medicinal Chemistry

Medicinal chemistry or pharmaceutical chemistry is a scientific course of medical science that interacts with chemistry and pharmacy and is used for designing and developing new chemical entities as pharmaceutical drugs. It is a part of the interdisciplinary science course combining a variety of subjects such as organic chemistry, photochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, molecular biology, biochemistry, computational chemistry, physical chemistry, and statistics.

Such discipline of medical science is also used to study existing drugs and their pharmacological properties, toxic effects, and quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR).

The majority of chemical entities that are used as medicines are natural products or synthetic organic compounds. However, inorganic or metal-containing organic compounds such as platinum, lithium, and gallium-based agents are also used as pharmaceutical products or drugs. For example, the cisplatin series of platinum-containing complexes are used as anticancer agents. These pharmaceutical items are called metal-based drugs.

In this category of online learning chemistry course, we study the medicinal or pharmaceutical uses, synthesis, effects, and doses of drugs or medicines by following topics or articles:
